Walton Rehabilitation Hospital

Walton Rehabilitation Hospital, the cornerstone of Walton Rehabilitation Health System, is a not-for-profit rehabilitation hospital located in the Medical Corridor of Augusta, Georgia.

The hospital offers adult and adolescent inpatient and outpatient programs for persons recovering from stroke, head injuries, spinal injuries, orthopedic injuries, chronic pain and other disabling illnesses and injuries. Walton Rehabilitation Health System also includes: Walton Outpatient Therapy Center, Walton Medical Associates, Walton Wound Care and Infusion Center, Aiken Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Center, Walton Community Services, and Walton Foundation for Independence.

Walton Rehabilitation Health System is the only comprehensive, specialized provider of physical medicine and rehabilitation in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA). In its mission to enhance the quality of life for people with acquired disabilities, Walton Rehabilitation Health System provides a complete continuum of care for those with a temporary or life-changing injury or illness. This continuum includes not only our inpatient rehabilitation hospital and outpatient therapy services, but also physician services, Walton Community Services, Walton Wound Care and Infusion Center, Aiken Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Center and Walton Foundation for Independence. Walton is also a community partner with Walton Options for Independent Living, which advocates and provides supportive services for those with acquired disabilities.

Experts in Rehabilitation
Walton cares for more stroke patients each year than any other rehabilitation hospital in Georgia. And, even though Walton cares for stroke patients who are sicker than most, at discharge, our patients meet or exceed national averages in measures related to independence and cognition.

Few brain injury programs across the nation are as comprehensive as Walton’s thanks to our transitional living services, a unique and valuable adjunct for brain injury patients who are ready to leave inpatient rehabilitation but not quite ready to live independently at home.

Sixty-seven percent (and growing!) of Walton nurses are CRRN-certified, a  voluntary certification that demonstrates excellence in rehabilitation nursing and which nurses can apply for only after completing two years of practice as an RN in rehabilitation nursing (or one year of practice and one year of advanced study).
Walton’s medical staff is made up of board-certified and/or fellowship-trained physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians. This unique speciality focuses on helping patients regain as much movement, function and independence as possible.

Rehabilitation patients often struggle with adjustment to disability, depression and other emotional issues. Knowing that, Walton has also made Behavioral Medicine services an important part of the care that patients receive.
Because all Walton does is rehabilitation, patients benefit from Walton’s expertise as a complete provider of rehabilitation services. Our programs and services are designed to meet patients’ needs at every step of the rehabilitation process.

Central Location
Walton is centrally located within Augusta, GA’s medical corridor on the border of Georgia and South Carolina, allowing collaboration with the Medical College of Georgia, University Health System, the Augusta VA Medical Center, Trinity Hospital, Doctors Hospital, Aiken Regional Medical Centers in Aiken, SC and beyond.

Accreditations and Awards
Walton is the only rehabilitation health system in the CSRA accredited by the Joint Commission and by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, as well as the only hospital with a specialty accreditation in stroke rehabilitation by the Joint Commission.

Walton was honored with the 2007 NAHMA’s Communities of Quality awards for the Development for the Elderly and the Development for Residents with Special Needs.

Walton received the 2003 Magnolia Award for Excellence in affordable, accessible rental housing.

Walton was awarded the 2002 Georgia Hospital Association Community Leadership Award for exemplary leadership and initiative contributing to the health and well-being of the people of Georgia.
